NXP to Leave Crolles2, Join Forces with TSMC

Netherlands-based chip maker NXP announced on January 16 that it will leave Crolles2 alliance that it, previously called Philips Semiconductor, formed with STMicroelectronics and Freescale in 2000, after its cooperation with the Crolles2 Alliance to expire at the end of 2007. In the meantime, NXP has announced that it will strengthen cooperation with TSMC, which became one of Crolles2 members in 2001, in the area of advanced CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor Process) development.
